The Studio Osteopathy Paolo Saccardi treats fibromyalgia.
Fibromyalgia is a rheumatic disorder that affects the muscles and connective tissues, causing an increase in pain and stiffness.
In many cases, fibromyalgia has an osteopathic component and then fibromyalgia is treatable and solvable with Osteopathy.
The success rate is very high: with osteopathic treatment is a considerable decrease in symptoms and often complete resolution of the problem.
Signs and symptoms
Fibromyalgia is mainly characterized by:
- Pain: pain can be localized to particular districts (neck, shoulders, back, legs) but in fact the main feature of fibromyalgia is to bring pain throughout the body, literally from head to toe.
- Stiffness: fibromyalgia often leads muscle stiffness and sense of impediment of movement.
- Fatigue: another feature of fibromyalgia is to bring a sense of fatigue and general fatigue. Just get up from the bed you feel tired already!
- Negativity to laboratory tests: fibromyalgia laboratory tests often are normal. The patient seems to be "healthy".
There are other side symptoms such as dizziness, frequent episodes of headache, sleep disturbances, tingling and loss of sensitivity, to name the main ones.
These side symptoms can be present individually or in an associated and occur a little less frequently.
Osteopathy and fibromyalgia
Fibromyalgia is actually not a real disease in the usual sense, but a state of malaise characterized by pain, stiffness and fatigue.
Also very often laboratory tests are in order so it is also hard to find a real root cause of the problem.
In many cases fibromyalgia has an osteopathic base.
In many situations in fact symptomatic expressions of tenderness and general stiffness are simply the result of a general functional failure lasted for a long time.
In other words, the patient presents osteopathic dysfunctions spread throughout the body and maintained for years; it is completely blocked by a mechanical and hemodynamic point of view.
This situation is unlikely to be compensated, especially going forward with age, and inevitably leads to a sense of general malaise.
In these cases, osteopathy is absolutely effective and decisive.
Fibromyalgia is treated like any other problem osteopathic: you need to locate the primary and correct malfunctions.
The difficulty in these cases, is linked to the fact that fibromyalgia sufferers usually has very structured dysfunctional paintings and present for years: the resolution takes time.
This should not be cause for discouragement on the part of the patient.
Instead, you should understand that if a functional disorganization is in place, it is an absolute priority inrtraprendere as soon as an adjustment path.
By way of example carry the case of a housewife of 61 years suffering from several years from chronic pain in all body areas, lately concentrated mostly on the neck and arms with associated tingling especially the right hand.
The whole thing was started with a trauma years before: the patient had suffered a whiplash injury which was followed by a rather violent febrile episode lasted a few days.
After this episode the patient seemed to be restored, but in the following months, widespread pain throughout the body have begun to manifest itself in ever more frequently and with greater intensity.
The patient was subjected to innumerable diagnostic tests X-ray type, blood chemistry, ultrasound and neurophysiological.
There are indications of suffering to skeletal and joint level, an important rettilineizzazione of cervical lordosis, widespread osteoarthritis, a slight sclerosis of the acetabular roof but the overall picture has never aroused particular suspicion: blood chemistry tests were always predominantly within normal limits .
Initially the problem was classified as cervical or cervicobrachialgia; then the pain began to swing at the lumbar spine and legs to create a situation of general discomfort rather heavy.
The diagnosis of fibromyalgia came relatively recently but in fact the problem had been going on for years.
The suggestions from the diagnosis of fibromyalgia were already known to the patient as in previous years had already been awarded with poor results.
This is why the patient sought an alternative to symptomatic therapy.
Osteopathic examination this patient had a particularly strong compression at the base of the skull and a significant functional suffering deep systems.
The skull had a rather hard consistency and sacrum dysfunction prior art on the right side with a fee iliac bone on the same side.
From this large dysfunction of cranial sacral type they followed peripheral adaptations of secondary type and especially a strong disorganization my fascial cervical and shoulder girdle.
The treatment was developed in a few sessions diluted during 3/4 months during which the dysfunctional framework has been fixed in a stable manner.
A distance of 6 months, the general symptoms had an appreciable improvement in the situation with a positive variation in the intensity of the symptoms either on that frequency.
In particular, the patient has had a considerable reduction of the overall rigidity, an improvement of joint mobility, a significant decrease in pain and the complete disappearance of the tingling in the hand.
In the following months the situation has still got some development in a positive way to a complete resolution.
A period of six months may seem long but we must consider that the problem was going on for years: the Patient reported that she had no longer any kind of symptoms or relapses or recurrences.
